Pinterest Rocks Social Media's Hottest Trends List

Back in 2007, I joined an online social networked called Twitter. You've heard of it, right? But back then I heard people giggle about me Tweeting. My husband would make fun of me chatting with my Twitter friends - ahem Tweeps. Many around me thought that it was certainly a passing fad and that it would have no bearing on their life whatsoever.

Who's giggling now?

I would guess that most of us hear the word or see the word Twitter on an almost daily basis. It's not uncommon any longer and it's obviously not as much of a passing fad like so many had predicted.

Last summer I was introduced to Pinterest. Is that new to you?

After returning from our missions trip in Botswana last June, I was watching some of the more crafty (as in they make things by hand - not that they're mean!) and socially media savvy women post interesting projects and such to their Facebook wall. It intrigued me and soon enough I joined Pinterest and began to pin away.

I've admitted it in person, but now I'll do so online, I'm a Pinterest addict. I suspect to me it's every bit as addicting as crack is to people who use that type of drug. I'm fascinated by the creativity, by the savory and sweet recipes I find, by the hilarious and I mean tears streaming down my face and I can't catch my breath, funny things that people post on their boards and I can't help but post on my own ROFL (rolling on the floor laughing) board.

For the most part I use it for my own sanctuary of amazing things that either I want to recreate or things I'd like for my ultimate dream home one day. As of today I've pinned over 1400 items. That's a bunch, right?

So if you've started hearing about it and you're still unsure of what it's all about, I'd suggest starting with this Mashable post: Pinterest: A Beginners Guide to the Hot New Social Network.

In December 2011, according to Charlie White's, Sr. Editor at Mashable, article, Study Shows Pinterest Will Compete With Top 10 Social Networks, the site had 40 times the number of hits it did only six months before. I've watched my friends list and in particularly online friends that are males, join in droves over the last month alone. I don't want you to join another social bandwagon of excitement too late, so if you need an invite let me know and I'll try my best to get you one.

Now tell me . . .

What do you like / dislike about Pinterest?

How long have you been on the site?

If you're not on the site yet, what's keeping you from joining it?
